SOUND PRESSURE LEVEL MEASUREMENT

RDNet measure can be used to measure the SPL level related to one of the players enabled in a measurement session.

First, to get real values of SPL it is necessary to calibrate the measurement chain. To calibrate the microphone the calibration tool must be used.

Press the button with the microphone icon and the calibration window will open.

A Sound Level Meter calibrator is needed to do it. Typically, calibrators produce 94 dB or 114 dB SPL at 1 Khz. Select the input channel of the audio card and insert the microphone in the calibrator set to 94 dB. Adjust the input gain of the related audio card channel in o rder to have enough “headroom” to measure your target Sound Pressure Level. The 4 small marks on the meter are -40, -30, -20 and -10 dBfs.

Now type 94 dB in the field and press .

As soon as the calibration process is finished, press .

If the calibration has been correctly done, at this point, with the calibrator still on, the SPL meter should show 94 dB SPL (set to Slow for a more stable reading). If yes, the software is now calibrated ready to measure the SPL at the microphone position. (typically the FOH position, otherwise places where it is necessary to check for the sound pressure level according with local regulations and limitations). By click on the button it is possible to record the time history of the SPL level. This is useful to demonstrate the SPL level also after the event. As soon as the button is pressed again, to stop the recording, a .csv file is created in Documents/RDNet with the related measured It is possible to measure the Leq as well.
